The Migos had a concert the other night at Georgia Southern University. The night ended when police showed up, stopped the music, and arrested Quavo, Offset, and several members of their crew. Quavo and Offset were arrested for marijuana posession, possession of a schedule II narcotic, and possession of a firearm. Since they were performing on school property they were charged with carrying a gun on the grounds. To make things worse Offset was released from prison in October 2013 after doing 10 months for parole violation. He was charged with gun possession by a convicted felon. There is no word on why Takeoff was not charged. Developing!

TIDAL has not gotten off to a fast start. The other day news broke that Andy Chen, who is the CEO of TIDAL’s parent company Aspiro, was forced out along with 25 other employees. Aspiro was acquired by Jay Z last month for $56 million dollars. A statement was released…
“TIDAL’s new interum CEO is Peter Tonstad – a former CEO of parent company Aspiro Group. He has a better understanding of the industry and a clear vision for how the company is looking to change the status quo. He’s streamlining resources to ensure talent is maximized to enhance the customer experience. We’ve eliminated a handful of positions and refocused our company-wide talent to address departments that need support and cut redundancies. TIDAL’s offices globally will remain and grow: we are already hiring for several new positions now. We’re excited about our future and what’s in-store for fans who want the best listening experience.”
Chile over the weekend Nelly was arrested on charges of felony possession of drugs, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Trooper Michael Loftis pulled over a coach bus that was carrying Nelly and five others around 9:20am on Saturday because it failed to display the stickers mandated by the U.S. DOT and International Fuel Tax Association. The trooper smelled marijuana and felt it was appropriate to conduct a probable cause search of the bus. A plastic bag containing five colored crystal-type rocks that tested positive for meth, as well as a small amount of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia. Multiple guns were also discovered such as a gold plated 50 caliber Desert Eagle pistol, a 45 caliber Tarus pistol, and a 500 magnum Smith and Wesson. Nelly was taken to jail. Developing!
Seems like that artists who exclusively release music on Tidal, which happens to be the new streaming service headed by Jay Z, just might suffer on the charts. Even though the service has said to pay the highest royalty percentage to these artists, this is still something to consider. According to a study and report from Billboard, if an artist puts out a song on Tidal the song will chart lower on Billboard’s Hot 100 since the service isn’t as popular as other platforms like iTunes and Spotify. Of course Billboard came up with these chart positions by assuming a song released on Tidal would possibly suffer 95% decline in streams compared to being on other on-demand music services. Lets see what happens with Tidal!
Kanye West did a surprise show in Armenia which is Kim Kardashian’s homeland. Yeezy opened the show with a few popular hits and the whole city surrounded Swan Lake, in center city. Kanye took things a bit far and jumped in the lake while performing. The crowd followed Kanye to the lake and the police called off the rest of the performance. The West’s are leaving Armenia and headed for Israel. Wonder what’s going to happen next .. 🙂
WHEW! Lil Wayne has decided to drop his $51 Million dollar lawsuit against Cash Money Records. On April 6th it has been reported that Weezy F Baby and Birdman have reached a settlement of some kind. Jay Z’s classic debut album is no longer available on Spotify but it now can be streamed on the new Tidal platform. Jay says that one of the reasons he and other musicians joined for Tidal was because other streaming services had an unbalanced profit sharing system with the artists. Taylor Swift pulled all of her music from Spotify in 2014 and now her catalog is included on Tidal. Tidal is separating itself from other streaming services by providing exclusive content like new songs. Rihanna and Beyonce have released new music exclusively through Tidal already.
“You guys may have seen some of the stats like, Aloe Blacc had a song that was streamed 168 million times and he got paid $4,000,” said Jay. “For us, it’s not us standing here saying we’re poor musicians. If you provide a service, you should be compensated for it. And not just artists — just think about the writers and the producers.”
Tinashe was supposed to hit the road with Iggy Azeala on Iggy’s “The Great Escape Tour” but when the tour was pushed back the singer lined up with Nicki Minaj for “The Pinkprint Tour”.” Tinashe also says that she did a song with Iggy but when Iggy started receiving backlash during the height of the “cultural appropriation” criticism she fell back from social media for a few days because she’s not used to that level of backlash. In an interview Tinashe was asked who’s music she preferred more between Nicki and Iggy. Due to her full discography Tinashe said she would go with Nicki. Check out the interview!
Kanye West has called himself a God more than a couple times. He even has called Jesus his role model saying that he grew up wanting to be “like Christ.” Now there is The Book Of Yeezus! In the book God’s name is replaced with Kanye or Yeezus and now the book is on the market. The book is only The Genesis chapter of the old testament, so expect a quick read. The book is only $20 dollars and the authors of the book said ..
“What if the Bible, the most singularly significant publication in the ancient canon of Western tradition, were updated to reflect our modern society? What would it look like? …In a sense, Kanye’s awesome and orchestrated spectacle is truly a religious experience.”
