When someone put me on Chance the Rapper a few months ago it was like a new awakening. I have to admit when I saw the cover art I skipped over it thinking it was too weird. My mind changed once I heard Cocoa Butter Kisses. He has flow and his own unique style. Very original. Nothing like being able to be yourself! 

Chance is from Chicago and his Acid Rap mixtape was NOMINATED for Best Mixtape at the 2013 Bet Awards. Which shows it’s potential. Acid Rap was self released free by the rapper in April 2013 and debuted on #63 on Billboard’s Top HipHop & R&B albums.

Updated: Lil Boosie is home!

Update: Lil Boosie is now home.. 🙂 LOL!

Confirmed! Lil Boosie will be home from prison soon. Reportedly the Louisianna rapper was supposed to be out before the end of February, but a new report from AllHipHop.com says his release has been pushed back to March. The release date will not be known for safety reasons. A lot of people have been supporting the Baton Rouge, Louisiana rapper while he has been locked away. I have lost count of how many “Free Boosie” tweets and posts I have seen. With all the support he has received during his time away one can only wonder how many will really support him once he is free. Hopefully those who have screamed for him to be free will continue to ride with him.

A good friend of mine told me about his music years ago and I immediately loved the sound of his voice. She and I used to sing his ratchet sounding lyrics at the top of our lungs even though we are far from “bout that life.” If It wasn’t for Lil Boosie some people wouldn’t have known how to spell INDEPENDENT! LOL! Anyway here are a few old songs I’m sure you are familiar with!

Solange – Saint Heron

Solange’s own record label Saint Records drops a compilation album called “Saint Heron”. It is a mix of dream pop, soul, and alternative r&b. The vibe I got off of this project was very relaxing so I can understand why it is considered dream pop.

The artists on board for on this album are Jhene Aiko, Solange, Cassie, India Shawn, Iman Omari, Petite Noir, BC Kingdom, Kingdom, Kelela, Starchild, Sampha, and Jade De La Fleur. The album was released in November 2013. I picked a few tracks I felt stood out the most 🙂

The 27 year old California boy Kid Ink is signed to RCA Records. In January 2014 at his album release party he earned his first Gold single “Show Me” with Chris Brown. Kid Ink is associated with DJ ILL Will.

On this song Kid Ink, Tyga, and Chris Brown serve a mean club record! Recently we have seen more side chicks move up to the “Main Chick” position. Are you the chosen one? “Do you really love me Steebie?”  Are main chicks in the club more or are side chicks in the club more? I’m trying to figure out if that’s a trick question.

Anyway I like the song, ..more so the beat. Worthy of a replay!

This freestyle gave me the exact look on his face. I think I might have played this about 10 times already. Back to the look on his face. Lupe delivers and serves the track with what it REALLY needed #Attitude. I laugh!

College Kids: Rutgers University offers Beyonce Class

Rutgers University is now offering a course called “Politicizing Beyonce.” If you are not familiar with the University go do your homework!  A doctoral student named Kevin Allerd is focusing on figuring out Beyonce’s lyrics and music videos with readings from black feminists. This is not the first time Rutgers has offered classes on entertainers. Jay-z and Bruce Springsteen are the other theological studies.

Movie News: Andre 3000 will play Jimi Hendrix in new biopic!

Confirmed! Can you tell who is who? Anyway Andre 3000 scored the role as Jimi Hendrix in upcoming biopic – All Is By My Side. The premier will be at the annual SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas March 7th through the 15th. Also premiering is Jeremy Scott, Snoop Dogg, Macklemore, Wiz Khalifa and others. The documentary on the A$AP crew is called “SVDDXNLY” and has more of them behind the scenes with family and friends. Excited or nah?

He really looks like Jimi tho!
