This year in 2014 no hip hop or rap project has managed to break the 200,000 mark in first week sales. J Cole might be the artist to pull the biggest one week sales for hip hop this year. The North Carolina native’s 3rd album 2014 Forrest Hills Drive is predicted to sell between 240,000 – 270,000 its first week. Which surpasses 179,000 for Rick Ross’ Mastermind album and 148,000 for Shady Records’ Shady XV.
Kendrick Lamar is the latest rapper to cash in on an endorsement deal with Reebok. In a new ad campaign by Reebok the video lets fans go through Kendrick’s hometown of Compton, California while wearing a fresh paid of Reebok Ventilators and rapping a verse. Kendrick has been a Nike supporter so it’s no surprise that KDot got the deal. Expect to see the limited addition Ventilator styles in June of 2015.
Earlier this year three of Nike’s top designers decided to leave the super brand and went to work for Adidas. Nike is now suing the trio for $10 Million dollars. Marc Dolce, Mark Miner, and Denis Dekovic are responsible for some cool sneaker designs you have seen from Nike. Nike says that the trio copied designs and business documents from their computers and claim the new Brooklyn Creative Designs Studio is a copy of their Innovation Kitchen design lab.
K Dot is getting SUED! Kendrick Lamar’s Section.80 was his breakout project into Hip Hop and a track that stood out was a track called “Rigamortis.” Jazz musicians Willie Jones the Third and Eric Reed claim that “Rigamortis” is a rip off from their track called “The Thorn” that was released in 2010. Eric and Willie have filed a lawsuit against Kendrick saying that he never credited them or gave them money for the music. One million dollars is being sought, any profits made from the sale of the track, and they want all rights as well. Nike matches the offer, Kevin Durant resigns with Nike for a cool $300 million dollar contract. Kevin Durant is signed to Jay Z under Roc Nation Sports which is why the story is amazing. Now adding to the amazement Nike is also offering Durant $25 million dollars after he retires. Perfect timing while KD’s new sneaker hits stores on September 10th!
